| I. Aim |
| 1. |
The aim of this position is to train academic gastroenterologists in performing
all aspects of endosonography in order to establish an endosonography unit in their
own teaching hospital and to continue the much needed clinical research and development
to further advance this modality. |
| 2. |
To expose the trainee to various aspects of Gastrointestinal Oncology - including
consultations, advanced procedures such as laser, photodynamic therapy, esophageal and
enteric stents, etc. |
II. Structure of the Training Position |
| |
This will be a twelve month position for a gastroenterologist who has completed his/her
fellowship training to assume a full-time training position in endosonography under the
direct supervision of Dr. Kenneth Chang and Dr. Phuong Nguyen.
At the midpoint of training, there will be a formal evaluation with performance feedback
and upon completion of the training, a formal letter summarizing the experience will be
provided to the trainee. There will also be a certificate of completion which will be
signed by the Head of GI Oncology as well as the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology. |
III. Job Description |

This individual will be expected to participate in the consultative service of GI
Oncology as well as perform endoscopic ultrasound procedures including EUS-guided
fine needle aspiration and other modalities associated with EUS and GI Oncology.
The academic requirements include the formulation of specific research proposals, the
preparation for IRB approval of new protocols, the formation and maintenance of a database
pertinent to EUS clinical research, the writing and presentation of abstracts to annual
meetings, as well as contributing to full manuscript submission for publication.

relative topics in GI Oncology.
At the onset of the training period, the individual will be assigned various research
projects in discussion with Dr. Chang and will take primary responsibility for these projects.
In addition, this position may also include 1 month of in-patient gastroenterology
consultations and procedures. |
IV. Selection |
| |
A curriculum vitae along with a cover letter will be submitted to the Chief of the
Division of Gastroenterology and the Head of GI Oncology. Suitable candidates will then
be interviewed, preferably in person, but in situations where that is not possible, a
telephone interview will ensue. The selection of the trainee among the applicants will
be the responsibility of the Head of GI Oncology with input from the Chief of the Division
of Gastroenterology as well as other faculty. |

for support. The Division of Gastroenterology will not assume responsibility for funding
this position. However, funding, if available, within the subdivision of GI Oncology may
